Who Are We?

Our team is headed by, Christiane Rogers, owner of Connecting the Pieces Playroom. She has worked in the field of early childhood for more than 15 years. Her passion and dedication to children specifically children with special needs, began at an early age. She started her own child-care facility, working with children with ADHD, ODD, and ASD, using "High Scope Learning Curriculum".

During her nearly 12 years of business, she acquired an Associate Degree in Early Childhood, a Bachelor's in General Studies with a focus on Communication.  She is currently working towards a Graduate Degree in Special Education, where she has aspirations of becoming a Behavior Consultant.

What Do We Believe?

High Scope Learning Curriculum used the study of theorists such as: Dewey, Piaget, and Vygotsky. Dewey believed that children learn best while interacting with other people, using the curriculum and their learning experiences combined. Piaget believed children learn best in a natural environment. Vygotsky believed that social and cognitive development work together and build on each other. He also felt that the world children inhabit is shaped by their families, communities, social-economic  status, education, and culture.

Christiane Rogers believes that by setting up an environment that includes everyone, each of these beliefs is represented through discovery, exploration, manipulation, creativity, and imagination.

At Connecting the Pieces, we provide an experience that offers play in an environment that supports parents and the special needs of their children.  It is a sensory play area that offers an environment of creativity, assurance, and stability.

We provide developmental aid-stimulating their vestibular system (inner ear), by using equipment that supports the sensory needs of children with various disabilities.

Disabilities, whether mental, physical, or developmental, such as therapy swings (offering weightlessness), trampolines, therapeutic balls, sensory manipulatives (aiding in hand and eye coordination, and

helping to build fine motor skills), fidget toys, and other sensory stimulating materials and activities that  also, help to build muscle groups, motor control, and gross motor skills.  This space encourages, transitions (de-escalates challenging behavior), and engages children.

An inclusive environment, such as Connecting the Pieces, also helps to build social skills in the natural environment.  It is very important to us, and all children are welcome in this playroom.  Our facility can accommodate children between the ages of 2 and 13, however some equipment may vary with weight limits.
